Compare Language Learning Apps

Independent, side-by-side reviews of the leading language apps. Pricing, teaching method, language catalogue and free trials — everything you need to pick the right app for the way you actually learn.

What to look for in a language app

The "best" language app depends entirely on what kind of learner you are. Some apps are great for vocabulary, others for grammar, others for getting you talking quickly. We assess each app on the four things that matter most: teaching method (is it actually effective?), pricing & value (does the subscription justify itself?), language coverage (is your target language properly supported?) and platform quality (does the app work, and stay out of your way?).

We sign up to each app, run real lessons in at least one language, and revisit our reviews regularly so that pricing and feature information stays current. Where we earn an affiliate commission from a referral, this is clearly disclosed and does not affect our editorial ranking.
